Titan Fuel: Serving Hope and Nutrition in Ball Chatham School District #5

Titan Fuel is on a mission to combat food insecurity among students in the Ball Chatham School District #5. We understand the crucial role that consistent nutrition plays in the lives of students, particularly those who rely heavily on school meals. Started in 2015 with support from Chatham United Methodist Church and a dedicated grant, Titan Fuel has grown into an essential resource for families in the community.

Who We Are

Fully volunteer-run, Titan Fuel operates without any paid staff. Our passionate volunteers pour countless hours into this cause, and we pride ourselves on the community-driven support that keeps our program thriving. Donations from individuals and local partners directly fuel our mission. Here's how we serve:

  • Food Bags: We provide bags of food for students to take home over the weekend.
  • Discreet Distribution: We ensure that food is distributed anonymously to protect the dignity of our students.
  • High School Support: We assist high school students through lunch account funding and snack provisions.
  • Tammi Kuhn Fierce Family Support Grants: In tribute to former administrator Tammi Kuhn, we provide grants that help families in various ways.

Our Impact on the Community

Every two weeks, our volunteers pack and distribute food bags to all school buildings. The process includes:

  1. Packing: Volunteers compile nutritious items into bags, ensuring that they contain diverse and appealing food options.
  2. Distribution: After the bags reach the schools, they are discretely distributed to at-risk students, particularly on Fridays.
  3. Grades PreK-8: Our primary focus is students from PreK to 8th grade, where they receive a nutritious supplement to their meals.

Challenges and Solutions for High School Students

As students transition from middle to high school, they face unique challenges. Titan Fuel recognizes that:

  • Older students often consume more food and may be responsible for younger siblings.
  • Engaging high school students requires tailored approaches and discreet methods.

To meet these needs, we provide:

  • Lunch Account Funding: Ensuring that they have access to meals at school.
  • Snacks: Supplying healthy snacks to keep them energized throughout the day.
  • Weekend Food Bags: So students can take food home, making it easier to share if needed.

Community Partnership and Support

Titan Fuel thrives because of its strong community connections. We are grateful for:

  • Local Businesses: Who contribute both financially and through in-kind donations.
  • Volunteer Efforts: Every hour volunteered is vital to our success.
  • Community Awareness: Spreading the word about food insecurity is crucial, and we encourage everyone to help raise awareness.
